2 kiwi icons get re-designed. You like?

L&P then and now.

Two kiwi icons have taken the next step in their design history in the past couple of weeks - L&P and Air New Zealand. The new L&P livery was designed by Dow Design, with the aim of modernising the packaging whilst still keeping an eye on the heritage of the drink.

Air New Zealand also has a new logo (and an all-black-everything colour palette), thanks to New Zealand type designer Kris Sowersby and Designworks. There's a great little article showing older Air New Zealand logos and Kris' design process over on his blog. He submitted 45 concepts in all.

A few wildcards were put forward.

  1. Errr. No and No. The AirNZ logotype does echo to me the sixties era but the type and logo mark don't sit comfortably together no, with the different weights and the koru in the mark it just doesn't flow.

The L&P, the many details in the graphics around the intitials make for a confusing and busy finish; i love the L&P on the bottle to the left ;-)
